Apparently, if you are grooving to the music that you listening to, something els is moving too.
This is your outer hair cell which has been patch clamped using a whole cell recording pipette at its basal end. Then, the music was played to stimulate it.
What is it in “english”,it is something that aid you in your auditory system.
Watch it groove towards the music by clicking on the picture or here.

Believe me, it’s stunningly amusing!
This is the sort of discovery that really reminded me of the young and naive me, wanting to be a scientist with great discovery.
Sadly, I must say, the route to actually get my Biomedical Sciences Degree, is starting to fade away.
Study harder than a doctor, some would say, pay is also lesser, great research comes with great sponsors, but with the credit crunch just at the door step, what sponsors?
But I must say, Jonathon Ashmore discovery is definitely one those who truly inspire people to the field of biological sciences. Who would have thought, outer hair cell could do that.
It is for once, I truly enjoy my studies, however, there is not much of it in my 1138 pages Principle of Neural Science Book.
Ugh.. back to auditory system..
God Help me, exam in 5 days.
Dust in the Wind Part 1
by Hwei Ming on Jul.27, 2008, under Rest of the Junk
Feeling all stress up?
Come my dear, hang on to me, and lets go on top a hill, with no one and no trees but just plain green grass, we shall fill our lungs with the wind that are blowing towards us. And together, we’ll SCREAM and SCREAM and SCREAM until you are at the brink of tearing. But don’t hold back your tears, let it out, let it be, for there is no one but me. Let me see you cry, let me see it stop so I could wipe of the tears. I’m sure by then, if you are still hanging on to me, laughter will fill the air, and before you’ll know it, we’ll be rolling down the hill of joy.
Or, come, lets go to the see next!
Stop crying dear, I know we’ll be oceans apart. But today it’s your day, worry later.
Grab a hand full of sand my dear, and lets start tossing it into the water. NOT AT ME!! Over there *pointing toward the sea*. The SEA!! the SEA!!! Thats it, you better start running baby, because the next thing that is gonna get wet, its you honey!…
<To be continue…>
